What is pipefreezing?

In the simplest of terms, it’s a non-intrusive process whereby pipelines are isolated using liquid nitrogen (or a cryogenic substance). It intends to freeze a section of pipe to draw out any heat it contains until a temperature below freezing point is met. What this eventually results in is the forming of an internal ice plug.

This procedure is carried out to allow a ‘break in’ to a piping system without shutting it down entirely or draining the whole system. For businesses and building owners, the minimal interruption this causes allows for much cost savings compared to other methods that may be applied.
