Why is there a significant increase in my water bills?

We have noted a number of different reasons why individuals, families and  businesses experience higher water bills which include:

  • Cracked Pipework: This is not always visible to the eye, as it may be occurring underground with the lines connected to your meter. Common irritants are tree roots, vermin and shifts in the composite structure.
  • Living Adjustments: Your water usage can change with the weather, due to different activities occurring within your household at different times of the year. Areas, where you may see heightened usage, include the filling of swimming pools, additional washing of clothes, sprinkler and hosepipe usage for irrigating lawns and cleaning patios.
  • Inefficient Appliances: Have you looked at the energy efficiency rating on your dishwasher, washing machine and other water-fed appliances in the house? Even outdated fixtures like toilets, sinks and showerheads in a lot of cases don’t compare to those built with the latest technologies.
  • Leaks: You may have a leaking toilet or tap, and the amount of water wasted through excessive dripping and spillage will cause your many litres of wasted water usage. You’ll want to address this because most water released through your property will be through these fittings.
  • Disregarded Waste: Are you leaving the water running whilst soaping your skin during a bath, or the dishes whilst washing? Alongside this, you may be applying too much water to your lawn whilst gardening, or adding an amount of laundry to your washing machine that’s way below its stated drum capacity. t
