What is hot tapping?

Hot tapping (or pressure tapping) is a means by which a pipeline or pressure vessel can be accessed via drilling or cutting. Its upside is that it eliminates the need to remove any piping or tanks from being in operation. Alongside this, environmental risks caused by the release of harmful chemicals into either the surrounding space or atmosphere are significantly reduced.

This process is carried out when a connection needs to be made to an existing set of pipes, allowing additional links to be welded to any current framework. Where either mechanical damage or corrosion has taken centre system, this cost-effective exercise can help bring things back to normality in next to no time.
