What does a boiler service entail?

First and foremost, a gas boiler service requires a Gas Safe registered engineer to conduct it. If it’s an oil boiler, then your technician will need to be registered with OFTEC. Be sure you ask to see and check the ID of your engineer when they turn up to carry out their work.

Once you’ve arranged a time and date for a visit itself, your technician will conduct a series of tests, checking your boiler’s efficiency and overall safety.

In terms of standard conventions, you can expect this to include a:

  • Visual Examination – where the boiler is inspected to ensure it meets the current criteria and is without leaks or corrosion.
  • Flue Check – which involves ensuring there aren’t any objects blocking your flue terminal, that it’s securely fitted and is without splits and cracks.
  • Gas Pressure Review – that ensures your boiler runs at the correct pressure level
  • Firing Up – to detect the boiler runs without any faults
  • Boiler Uncasing – where the cover is taken off your boiler, and each internal component (which include the main injector, spark probe, heat exchanger and burner) of your boiler is cleaned and working correctly.

They’ll examine, clean and review your boilers key components. The aim will be to ensure safe operation of the boiler itself, its different parts and overall functionality.”
